        The Hill-Gnomes are slightly larger than their forest cousins
but equally well equiped to cause trouble for themselves, their
relatives, and their relatives' relatives.  Most choose to dabble
in the magical arts or take up a craftsgnome position.  Gnomish
toys and trinkets are legendary for their complexity and total
lack of ability to do anything useful except whirl and spit out
plumes of smoke and debris.  Very rarely (and totally against the
designers original plans) an invention turns out to be useful.  This
causes great consternation amoungst the gnomish workgnome guilds as
they are afraid they may be missing the point of invention in their
other creations.  This results in a ten year inquiry at which point
they always conclude they need to study the matter further.
