This is somewhat related to the summon thread but not exactly.

I'm sure others have noticed but a LOT of changes over the years have gone into place to make darke a lot more "friendly".

The most major ones:

1. Runes always set to the owner of the castle/mine - What happened to looting and aggro runing a castle?! This also brings up problems for re-runing if the castle owner is on hiatus.

2. Summon gone

3. Save on ghost, no corpse looting.

I don't miss summon I must admit (even being a sword-mage) however the others were fun!

Darke has certainly gone the way of kindness. Being much older, less the disaffected youth I once was, and more interested in the game itself than what the game did for me, I don't much mind. On the other hand, there are some things that made the "Where Nightmares..." jabber after reboots seem to actually mean something.

I don't miss aggressive runing. I don't miss corpse looting. I don't miss xp loss from deaths. I don't miss crashes or bugs. In short, I don't miss a lot of things, and I can do without all the things I do miss. I am still a huge advocate for a singular mud plan though - one in which the direction is clearly stated and the paths taken along that journey are left to the imagination.

Any chance a meeting of the admin will result in such a sweeping document of intent?

Maybe I do in some great ways, but I play the game a lot differently now than I did in ages past. Corpse looting was the way to give the proverbial finger to someone. Killing them has always just been a matter of course, whereas when looting someone you were sending a clear message.

These days I don't much care for messages from my fellow users. I'm much more interested in the state of the game (and admittedly, corpse looting being gone is a detriment in my mind... I simply don't miss it because I wouldn't be doing it now anyway) and mildly pleasing goals I set for myself.

Looting in general represented the only way to really set an opponent back. Killing used to mean someone would have to xp for an additional six hours for a single pray, and it now means they'll have to continue playing at a reduced capacity for the same time. Looting meant many dozens of hours of work that wasn't even done by the player killed (in most cases) needing to be replaced. The time spent letting a mine spit out ingots (or buying them), the time a tinker takes to make the item, the time taken to rune them, to get the newly minted item from tinker to enchanter, then to chant them was significant and not only served to set them back in terms of time, but EVERYONE knows you can't effectively gain combat xp without significant equipment.

I suppose in some very real ways I'm sad that corpse looting has gone. I also don't much miss it personally because, more likely than not, it would be my corpse getting looted. If there were a petition or poll that gauged user response to the return of looting, would I vote on the side of looters everywhere? Of course! I honestly believe it's an important part of the way conflict is resolved on Darke. Will I champion that same movement? No. Not even a little.

I agree. I very rarely looted bodies. Usually it was a statement more than anything else.

I do think however that you should be able to kill your guildmaster and assume control of the guild.

I think if somebody has something you really want, you SHOULD be able to take it (like when some admin re-introduced some artifacts).

I would also agree, corpse looting isn't my favorite thing to do. ANd if you did do it to someone with a lot of friends you would pretty much get raped everytime you logged on and your equipment would prolly be on the bottom of the ocean.

But I'll give you an example of why it should be in.

Castle looting is still in. If I go and loot somebody's castle and steal a suit of armour, they are perfectly justified (in my opinion) to come kill and loot me to even up the score.
