It's a favorite of everyone, Levels.

"Mine are secret." "I'm 6/35." "He's some old CL who has been around pre-cms, he's probably like 45/45"

I dunno what everyone says about everything, but personally I think the world would be better if we knew eachothers levels.

Yes, I honestly believe nothing of great importance is gained by secreting away such knowledge.

If anything it might serve to keep people more honest. "Oh, so and so just gained 5 magic levels in the past two weeks but zero combat levels..." whatever the buzz may be for knowing such things.

What are my reasons for wanting levels out in the open? Mostly personal reasons.
My response: What are your reasons for wanting levels to remain secret? My guess, your reasons for secrecy are just as personal as my reasons for openness.

Whats the vibe on this? I'm pretty much very pro-revealing. Who knows, I might even be inspired to level my combat up once I know how far I gotta go to outrank the person who sits above me in the "showstats" ranking.

I don't really see why you would want levels to be public. As it is you can pretty much tell what level people are with showstats, where they hunt, spells they may have, pets they have.

Maybe if you actually told your personal reasons for wanting levels to be public knowledge I would get a better understanding of what you mean.

My reasons for not wanting levels to be public first would be who the hells business is it anyway? And it's not about being honest or not, you just never ask a woman her age! Ya know what I mean? I just don't really see a great benefit to being able to tell every persons levels. If you really want to know then ask them...maybe indirectly...maybe RP with them and find out what kind of spells and skills they have. Sure they could be lying to you. Trust No One. But what big difference does it make?

You should always be inspired to level your combat up...unless I am on...then get away from my mobs! You don't need a specific level target to know you gotta get up in guild ranks if you aren't #1.

Well, by personal reasons I mean my feelings on the matter. There aren't secret reasons I have that I don't want to disclose. Simply, I feel like it would be a better way.

In truth, your reasons for now sharing levels sound like my reasons for revealing them. Aka, its how we would like it to be.

I guess I should add, one of my favorite personal reasons is, "Its fun to know." And well, I like having fun.

Not knowing a person's levels, skills, spells or whatever else makes combat with them more risky. It's much easier to appraise risk if you have all the information.

Darke is meant to be a game filled with risk and danger (at least, that is how most people seem to see it). Therefore, taking away some amount of risk is a bad thing. You should come up with better reasons for doing it than, "I wanna know." It's fine to wanna know, but it's unlikely anyone will agree with you on such personal and objectively flimsy rationale.

Octavian, incidentally, was level 81/72. I feel comfortable revealing that now.

Nod, I agree entirely with Minstrel. It's an OOC thing that shouldn't be revealed in the game. Plus, there's an element of secrecy that some characters like to maintain. Some players can go from creation to level 30-35 overall completely unnoticed, and if that's what they want, then that's their business. There's no need for that person's levels to be released to the public. If you want your levels revealed, shove it in your title.

I'm gonna call Minstrel a liar on that S level ;\)

I think my monk was 38/33

I had a few HM paladins.

My biggest SM was 31/28.

And the thief I had for 2 weeks was I believe 12/26 or so.

But I'm not up for revealing everybody's levels. There are ways to find out what overall level people are and always have been. Make a necromancer, kill people and prepare their corpses. Then you'll know what overall level they are.

I think showing a persons level is a bad thing. There are to things that indicate what level you are, when you are a newbie and when you are a HM. There is no need to show more. If you want to know what level a certain someone is join their guild and keep leveling and do showstats me and when you pass em you will know.

Exactly Sabu,

It is perfectly possible for the greatest swordsman in the land to not flaunt his ability and pose as a defenseless peasant.

Of course that person will likely have a deadly reputation, but if they have taken care to hide this, why deprive them of their secrecy.

We already have a way to tell people what levels we are if we want to advertise. Just put it in your title.
